Appointments

For non-urgent issues, please follow the guidelines below and choose the right service. An appointment may not be necessary.

This will help us to be more efficient by making an appointment available to you when you need it the most.

Duty Doctor Service: For When You Have An Urgent Medical Problem

To make it easier for you to get the right help when you need it urgently we are offering a Duty Doctor Service in this practice. Duty Doctor is in place from 8am to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.

When you phone with an urgent problem, the Duty Doctor will ring you back within 2 hours and will decide the best way to help you. The doctor may:

  • Give you advice straight away over the phone
  • Arrange for you to come into the practice to see a doctor or nurse or other member of staff
  • Arrange for a home visit if you are not well enough to come to the surgery and the doctor thinks you need to be seen
  • Direct you towards other services which can help

If you need urgent medical advice for you or someone you care for, please call the practice on our usual number and ask the reception team about speaking to the Duty Doctor. They will ask you a few questions and if they decide the duty doctor is the right person to help they will arrange for them to call you back within 2 hours.

This service offers you quick access to your GP practice, where they know you and have your full medical record. We recommend this service instead of going to A&E.

Extended access

We also have extended access available. See our Out of Hours information.

Book a Routine Appointment

For non-urgent medical problems, you can book a routine appointment using the following options:

Sickness Certificates (Fit Notes)

You must give your employer a doctor's 'fit note' (sometimes called a 'sick note') if you've been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.

Visit our Sickness Certificates page

Home Visits

We encourage patients to come in. If someone is genuinely unable to attend the surgery because of ill health, the doctor will visit them at home.

We would appreciate your requesting this as early in the day as possible.

GP Appointment System

The Practice has introduced pre-bookable face to face and telephone appointments, that are also available to book online or via the automated telephone system.

Additionally, there will be some appointments available to book on the day for acute/urgent medical problems.

All routine appointments with a doctor are for 10 minutes and it’s usually one problem per appointment. If your problem is too difficult for 10 minutes you can ask for a double appointment when you book.

Patients who are late

If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment the clinician will not see you and you will be asked to rebook. For extended hours appointments you will need to come on time for your appointment. If you are late then you will be asked to rebook.

Change or Cancel an Appointment

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please give us as much notice as possible so that your appointment can be offered to someone else.

Ways to cancel

1. Telephone us on 0203 487 0200.

2. Cancel using our online services

3. Cancel through the NHS App

Enhanced Access

Primary Care Enhanced Access Service

GP practices across north east London are changing the way they provide evening and weekend appointments to ensure patients can get help more easily when they need it. From Saturday 1st October 2022, appointments will be made available outside of normal practice hours (8am to 6:30pm on weekdays).

Who an access the service?

Patients will be able to book GP appointments or things such as vaccinations, health checks, and cancer screening. These appointments may take place by phone, video, or face-to-face depending on clinical need. These appointments can be booked via your GP practice in the usual way on the phone or online and will either take place at your local surgery or at a nearby NHS site in your local area.

What are the opening times?

The opening hours are 6:30pm to 8pm weekdays and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.

What can I expect at a consultation?

One of the added benefits of the primary care extended access service is that the clinician will have access to view your medical record during your visit to the primary care access centre. Having access to view your medical record means that the clinician will have a greater understanding of your medical history and health needs and can then choose the treatment that is right for you. The clinician will ask you for your consent before accessing your medical record.

Using this service will not affect your registration at your usual GP practice.

Who will have access to my medical record?

Only authorised staff within the service will have access to view your medical record. Clinicians can only review your medical record if you have given your expressed consent. If you do not consent then the GP will not be able to continue the consultation. Your medical information will be treated with the strictest of confidentiality.  All City and Hackney GP practices have agreed to sign up to a data sharing agreement which sets out what information will be shared, how and when.

What if I don’t want my medical records to be shared?

If you don’t want your medical records to be viewed then you will need to tell the receptionist or GP at your own practice when they are booking the appointment. They will then offer you an appointment at your own GP practice.

Your views and feedback about the primary care extended access service

At the end of the consultation with the GP you will be asked to complete a patient experience survey. Your views and feedback are important and will help us to make improvements.

Tests and referrals

The GPs in these centres will send any requests for tests and referrals back to your own GP practice to action – in a small number of cases your own GP practice might recommend a different management plan to the extended access GP.

Chaperones

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. The chaperone may be a family member or friend. On occasions you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present, i.e. a trained member of staff.

Wherever possible we would ask you to make this request at the time of booking so that arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed in any way. Where this is not possible we will endeavour to provide a formal chaperone at the time of request. However, occasionally it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment. Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our chaperone policy.

Languages, Health Advocates and Interpreters

Through an agreement with DERMAN, our Turkish advocacy service, we have Turkish advocates available on Thursday and Friday mornings.

We can also provide advocates in some other languages.

If you are bringing your own interpreter, please book a double appointment. We do not allow children to act as interpreters during your treatment or appointments.
