Clinics and Services

Clinics
Baby Clinic
This is a clinic for well babies only. It is for developmental assessment and for giving immunisations. It takes place every Monday afternoon. You can see the GP by appointment between 1pm and 3pm for six-week checks and the nurse, also by appointment, between 1pm and 3pm for immunisations. Our Health Visitor, will also be available between 12:30pm and 2:30pm in a walk-in clinic. A member of staff will weigh your baby.
Cervical Cytology (Smears)
You can have a smear test done with our practice nurse. We are committed to efficient smear recall every three years for all women aged 25 to 49, every 5 years for women aged 50 to 65, and possibly more often for any woman who have had an abnormal result. The results get posted to your home address approximately four to six weeks later.
Emergency Contraception
We offer two forms of emergency contraception: the morning after pill and the coil. The coil can be inserted for emergency contraception up to 5 days after unprotected sex. Speak to our receptionists in private as soon as possible. Local pharmacists also provide the morning after pill.
Flu and Pneumococcal Immunisation
Flu and Pneumococcal immunisations are available at the surgery.
Find information about the flu jab, including who should have it, why and when.
Health Care Assistants
Our Health Care Assistant, will take bloods. They will also do health checks for new patients, well being clinics (to help with weight loss), blood pressure checks, dressings, smoking cessation advice, spirometry and assist at the Minor Surgery clinics.
Health Monitoring Clinics
Your doctor may ask you to attend one of these clinics, run by a practice nurse, if you suffer from a chronic condition such as diabetes, COPD, asthma, high blood pressure or mental health problems. If you suffer from epilepsy you will be invited to see Dr Darkwah and our pharmacist Amanda.
Locum GPs
It is not always possible for doctors to cover all surgeries. We may occasionally need to call in a locum to cover absences (holidays, sickness and study days). They will always be fully qualified doctors, and we will try to use the same doctors whenever possible.
Long Term Conditions
What we do
As your GP surgery we play a significant role in managing your long-term condition. We believe in working with you and specialists in the community to provide holistic, personal, and high-quality care.
All patients with a long-term condition should have an annual review (or 'health MOT'). The first part of this is with a health care assistant or a nurse. At this appointment we will take a blood sample, check your blood pressure, and update other health data.
A GP will review your results, looking at your medical history and medications, and consider how together we could improve your health/management of your LTC. This may include health advice, medication changes or referrals to a community service.
Your second contact with us will be to share and discuss the GP's recommendations with you. This appointment will also be with a healthcare assistant or a nurse. If you have more than one long term condition, we aim to make this second appointment with a nurse or GP.
Medication Review Clinic
Run by our pharmacist. If you are unsure about how to manage your medication, please book an appointment to see her. You will need to bring with you all your current medication and boxes.
Patient Information Leaflets (PILS)
Reception will be happy to give you copies of our patient information leaflets on a variety of topics. Feel free to browse through our information folders and ask for copies of any of the leaflets contained in them.
Practice Nurses
Our practice nurses provide a wide range of services, including travel advice and vaccinations (you will need a double appointment for your first assessment), child immunisation, minor illnesses and injuries treatment, family planning, sexual health for women; cervical smears; general health advice, asthma, COPD, hypertension, diabetes and CHD (coronary heart disease) checks, and wound management including dressings, removing sutures and clips.
Social Prescribing
There are many things that impact our health and wellbeing, including feeling isolated or struggling with practical challenges. We have Social Prescribers in our practice who can speak with adults registered with the practice. They will ask you about what is happening in your life, what you enjoy, and what is getting in the way. The Social Prescriber might suggest services and activities that might help you or simply work with you to build your skills and confidence. They can tell you about community based services, e.g. lunch clubs, gardening groups, benefits advice, exercise groups.
Please ask your GP to refer you to social prescribing.
Time 2 Talk
We offer extended appointments of 45mins with the Practice Nurse if you suffer from 2 more long term conditions. The aim is to give patients the opportunity to discuss worries, depression, lifestyle, family issues and concerns about their conditions. For more information, please enquire with the Nadine Bailey or Valerie Acheampong, our Practice Nurses, or Khurram Shahzad, Practice Manager.
Teenagers
All consultations are confidential. We will see most young people without their parents in 14 to 16 age group if needed.
Sexual Health
We offer free self-testing kits for Chlamydia to all patients aged 16 to 25. You can also book an appointment for full sexual screening with the nurses.
